Central Iowa Enduro Riders Dual Sport / Trail Ride Update:

The legendary Gnarly Hills Enduro has been changed to a dual-sport trail ride for 2009.   The course will consist of true enduro and hare scramble trails from our past events and  is available for both  street legal trail bikes and off-road only motorcycles.  Street legal means that you must have a drivers license, current license plate, vehicle registration and proof of insurance.  Bring your family - come camp and share a weekend of riding and bench racing.

  Event Info:

Sign Up/Ride Times- The trail system will be open for riding on Saturday from Noon until 6PM and from 9AM until 2PM on Sunday.  Because riders can start riding at any time during these hours, signup will be available thru-out the day both days.  You WILL need a valid AMA card which can be purchased during signup.  Entry fee for the entire eleven hour period of riding is $25 no matter how much you ride.  A poker run is planned for the off-road section.

  Sections Available:

All four trail sections have been used by the CIER club for past Gnarly Hills or Dayton hare scramble events.  As such, this event is not intended or suitable for large dual sport motorcycles such as BMW GS’s, Suzuki V-Stroms, etc.  Several of the sections would even be difficult on a KLR or DR dual sport.

Section 1 can be ridden by both street legal and non-legal motorcycles.  This is our enduro’s past south section and leaves right from the event pits.  It consists of over nine miles of trail with numerous off cambers, hills, and creeks.  This section is challenging and known for separating the men from the boys.  We even have hero and zero sections arrowed.

Section 2 is primarily Des Moines River bottom trail and is over three miles in length.  The trail is quite open, fast, and fun.  You’ll feel like Mike Lafferty here.

Section 3 is a combination of tight, sandy river bottom trail and open woods riding.  This trail will open up and become faster during the weekend but will make everyone work up a sweat before the faster open trails at the end.  Close to four miles of length here.

Section 4 is the five plus mile course from our July hare scramble event.  Fast, open trails with plenty of relief, stream crossings, and length.  David Knight would love this section.

Sections 2, 3, and 4 can only be accessed by the public road system (gravel) and hence the need for street legality.  Map provided to reach the sections.  Ride each numerous times.

 LOCATION/CAMPING:

Primitive camping with Port-a-Potties is available both Friday and Saturday nights.  Bruce Friest has promised one of his historic campfires on Saturday night so plan to join us for some good times.  Start is located 10.2 miles north of Ogden on Co Rd P70 and then 1.5 miles east.  Simply follow the arrows!
